All Athabasca University courses are pay-as-you-go. You pay for each course only when you register for it, and our course fees include all textbooks and materials, and access to a tutor or success centre. All course fees must be paid in full when you register.
The first time you take an AU course or apply to an AU program, you’ll also pay a one-time, non-refundable application fee. You won’t have to pay this fee again, no matter how many courses you take, or how long you wait between courses.
Your tuition will vary depending on where you live and whether you’re taking an undergraduate or a graduate course. Additional academic fees will vary, depending on your courses and circumstances.
You must pay all fees in full when you apply as a student or register for a course, but you only pay for a course when you register in it.
If you need student loan funding to pay for your courses, you will need to apply for it 3 to 4 months before you plan to start your studies.
Course fees are refundable within 30 days of the course start date, though a withdrawal processing fee will apply. Both undergraduate and graduate application fees are non-refundable.
